Christina A. Tugeau, Artist

After earning a Fine Arts Major BA degree at DePauw University, I worked in the art dept. of Family Circle Magazine in NYC until I decided to start a family. In keeping with my dream and plan, though, I kept painting to develop a body of work, and entering shows - winning some!  But in my late 30s, the solvents used in oils caused severe asthma, and I was medically advised to quit oil and most other mediums, except watercolor. I began the search for a non-painting art career. In 1994, after three years of interning, I started my own national illustrator representation agency for the Children’s Book Publishing industry.  Gradually, I was able to add acrylic paints again for my fine arts practice.   Since retiring in 2019, as I passed the reins of The CAT Agency Inc. to my daughter, Christy Ewers, I have enjoyed lots of plein air and studio painting in various locales.  My painting ‘Beach Path’ recently won the ‘Best Acrylic’ in the Plein Air Magazine’s June 2021 Salon competition, and 'Best Adult' in the Alden Weir Farm '21 competition.  The dream is coming true after all!
